Planning phases

I have been spending a lot of time planning this trip. You have to book now for next summer otherwise you wont get any place to stay. It is not like you can drive off in the sunset and go anywhere any time. When Paula and I traveled sometimes we would just pull off the road and sleep on the prairie. It is harder to do that with an RV. I have planned a circuitous route across the Western States. As you van see below I have lots of AAA maps and several key books. The first book is “Your Guide to the National Parks” which covers all 59 National Parks. I am also going to some National Monuments and other areas. The second book is called “The Most Scenic Drives in America.” I am taking as many of these drives as possible. These two books were given to me by my former compatriots at FDA for which I am most grateful.

I have laid my trip out for different segments: March in Florida; April in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona; May in northern Arizona and Utah; June in Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Montana and Alberta; July in Idaho and Oregon; and August in California. Actually I end up Bay Area in mid August and don’t have firm plans from there. However, I will probably head back to the Northwest for August/September. I will head home in October.

I have been trying to get people to join me for different legs of my trip. My brother will join me in Canada in Banff and Jasper National Parks. My best man Greg will join me in the Grand Teton and I hope my friends Joy and Wayne will join me in Yellowstone National Park. My friend Bill will join me in Zion and Great Basin National Parks. i hope to get my old friend Patrick to join me in the Southwest of Texas in Big Bend National Park. If you want to join me somewhere along the route please let me know. I will be in the Pacific Northwest in August and could pick you up and drop you in Seattle. I will be in Tucson and Sedona April 25 to May 3. I have a campsite on the Verde river in Sedona.
